Can home Depot or Lowes match a Benjamin Moore WITHOUT the paint chip?

Sharon K asked:

There is a color at Benjamin Moore that I am in love with! Very long story short, my home needs to be painted this weekend and it is physically impossible (even longer story) to make it to a Benjamin Moore store to physically have the paint chip from there. Does Home Depot or Lowe’s have competitors colors in their computer? Are there any other paint stores that do? I tried to find the same shade online for brands that Home Depot sells and am coming up empty! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

They can’t match anything w/out a chip! If you find a sample that’s the same color, at the store, they can match that. I used to work at The Home Depot. They do not have competitor’s products in there computers.

      Hope this helps.

Call your local Lowes or Home Depot and ask if they have the fan deck for Benjamin Moore. If they do (and most do) then they can mix the paint for you.

      Good luck.

hmm, someone correct me if i’m wrong but i do believe they will need SOME kind of sample. i would guess the best sample would be the 18″x18″ BMoore chip

if you have experience you can attempt the closest match and mix a pint of another color and universal tints (eg phthalo blue, raw sienna, raw umber, etc) to “color match” … needless to say this takes a trained eye and confidence but if you achieve a great shade you’ll be doing a happy dance. tints are quite affordable

I don’t know if they do or not, but why don’t you go to the site below and find the color, and print out a sample, or at least write down the color name and stock number. Maybe they’ll be able to help that way.

Go to Benjaminmoore.com and open the color viewer. Find your color and print it out. Take this to Home Depot and have them match it.

Yes Home Depot can match any color from Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Etc. They have a computer that looks up the color code for each color these stores have. I know this because I am a painting contractor and I have needed paint on the weekends from Benjamin-Moore and didn’t have a sample, but the people at Home Depot looked up the color and made it for me.

If you go to a paint store, and not just a huge bargin warehouse to buy paint I can tell you yes they can.

You do not need a chip to match a color.

Although they might not sell “benjamin moore” paint at those places. The paint store will keep fan decks, which is samples of all of the colors to a collection, on pretty much any brand of paint you could think of and a whole lot more.

I work for a small business local paint shop and I can tell you we have over 100 fan decks, some up to 15 or more years old of varrying competitors.
We can match any color. Most other stores to keep up with competition will do the same.

If you have the color number and or name they can get the formula. i paint for a living. you can take the information above to any paint store and they should be able to match the color
