Digital Video Recorder Storage

January 2nd, 2008 | by admin |

One usually has to make the distinction between digital video recorder and whether its storage format is analog or digital. Footage seen on Betamax, Betacam or VHS for instance, is actually digital video recorded on an analog component or a tape. This means that while the format is digital, the storage component is analog. Footage recorded onto a hard disc or DVD in contrast, is digital video recorded onto a digital format. Thus it would not be entirely accurate to call movies or other footage recorded onto magnetic tape mediums as analog, when in fact it is only the storage medium that is analog, the footage itself is digital.
